Things just got real. Michigander's, along with most of the country, are feeling the pinch at the pump. It seems nobody is safe from the hit of soaring gas prices, and that includes law enforcement.

The Isabella County Sheriff’s Office took to Facebook on Tuesday, June 7, to announce that it had exhausted all its fuel funds. Sheriff Michael Main posted on Facebook that funds have run out with several months to go before the budget resets.

Being transparent, Sheriff Main stated the facts and his plan moving forward with the situation involving the exhausted funds saying,

"I have instructed the deputies to attempt to manage whatever calls are acceptable over the phone. This would be non-in-progress calls, non-life-threatening calls, calls that do not require evidence collection or documentation."

He went on to say,

"Deputies will continue to provide patrols to all areas of the county, they will respond to those calls that need to be managed in person. Any call that is in progress with active suspects will involve a response by the deputies. I want to assure the community that safety is our primary goal, and we will continue to respond to those types of calls."

Gas prices have increased it seems by the hour in Michigan over the past few weeks. In Michigan, the average cost for regular gas was $5.21 per gallon, as of June 8, according to AAA. That price is more than the largest weekly increase of 45 cents.

Currently, the highest gas prices are in California where residents are paying $6.39 per gallon.
