    Origin of Friday the 13th

First, I mentioned how the Last Supper introduced a lot of people to Friday the 13th, but it was actually a book that really made it a big day. In 1907 a book by a stockbroker named Thomas Lawson, titled "Friday, the Thirteenth" was published, and it tells the tale of a stockbroker who picks that particular day to manipulate the stock market and bring all of Wall Street down. The book was a pretty big seller, but it really did a number on stockbrokers as for a time after 1907 stockbrokers wouldn't come to work or trade stocks on this day.

    Stock Market Changes

I mentioned how a book about the stock market made the Friday the 13th myth bigger. It's actually a weird day for the stock market in general. According to analysts, stocks actually go up 57% of the time on Friday the 13th. But here is something weird, if the Friday the 13th falls in October, stocks have fallen and the S&P 500 has fallen an average of 0.5% on a Friday the 13th in October.

    Calendar Pattern

Friday the 13th, the date, doesn't come up that much, but there is a pattern to it. An easy way to figure out if Friday the 13th is going to happen in any given month is to wait for the 1st of the month and if it falls on a Sunday then the month will have this dreaded day. Also there can't be a year with more than three Friday the 13ths. The next year for that won't be until 2026 as the last year this happened was in 2015.

    Friday the 13th Asteroid

Friday, April 13th, 2029 is when 99942 Apophis was thought to have a small chance of colliding with Earth. But you can rest easy because after a few years, scientists have revised their findings which show that there is absolutely no risk of the asteroid impacting the Earth or the Moon. You still might be able to check it out as it flies by in 9 years, though.

The Town That Doesn't Take Chances

Towns will also get in on the weirdness of Friday the 13th. Residents in the town of French Lick, Indiana will put bells on black cats to ward off bad spirits.

    Airlines Don't Like The Day

Airlines are businesses that suffer the most on Friday the 13th as some people are scared to fly because they are worried something bad will happen. Some airlines have reported losses of close to a billion dollars just from Friday the 13th as people don't want to fly and even some pilots don't want to fly either on that day. It has been said that even though people are nervous about the day, there are actually less accidents on Friday the 13th because people tend to stay home and avoid accidents.
