Saturday Is National Use Your Gift Card Day
I legit found a Bigby gift card in my jacket pocket the other day. I had no idea how long it had been in there and definitely didn't know how much was on it.
It did make me stop by on my way to work and to my surprise there was about two bucks on there.
Saturday is dedicated to just that. Find all the gift cards lying around the house. Check all those old birthday and Christmas cards. The junk drawer. Look everywhere. You might have a couple in your purse and or wallet.
Find them and use them.
It's National Use Your Gift Card Day. Don't worry if you've never heard of this before. It just got started last year. Before things got crazy.
National Use Your Gift Card Day is a shopping holiday that takes place yearly on the third Saturday of January. It is an unofficial observance with the inaugural observance taking place on January 18, 2020. National Use Your Gift Card Day encourages people to remember to use their gift cards. (Wikipedia)
There's even a website to help you at UseYourGiftCard.com.
This is a problem I did not know we had. Every year roughly $3 billion worth of gift cards go unused. And that's money someone has already spent and is just sitting there. Some gift cards come with expiration dates and when they expire, that money pretty much goes up in smoke.
There are several sites where you can check your gift card balance. Or you might want to just check the back of the card. There is usually a website or an 800 number you can call.
Find those cards and use those cards this weekend.
