Michigan Theatre Brings Comedy And Live Events Back To Jackson

Safe to say we could all use a good laugh at this point, right? Well, that's where the Laugh Your Mask Off Comedy Show is here, marking the Michigan Theatre in Jackson's first in-person event since the pandemic started last year.

According to MLive, social distancing and ticket limits have been set and are being followed in accordance to regulations set by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

For example, Steve Tucker, the executive director of the Michigan Theatre told MLive seats are spaced out about eight feet and those in attendance will be required to be masked up until they get to their seats.

The show set for 8 p.m. on Friday, April 23rd will be hosted by Jackson radio host Scott Clow and will feature comedian Mike Green as the headliner joined by Ron Rigby.

Scott Vitale, promoter of the shows coming up, said that with restrictions being lifted, now just seemed like the right time to bring in bigger talent and "better quality of entertainment" to Jackson.

"I've been planning to bring comedy back to downtown Jackson since last fall," Vitale said. "We were anticipating to host a show around Valentine's Day but the restrictions didn't afford us the opportunity so we targeted a spring-time show with more to follow..."

As someone who absolutely loves stand-up comedy, I truly do love everything about this and look forward to more events like it right in downtown Jackson. My hometown that I moved back to only to find it completely transformed with tons of opportunities for entertainment.

Anyone who knows Jackson knows that the Michigan Theatre is an amazing venue for any kind of show and Vitale talks about how perfect it is for comedy shows.

" It's right in the heart of downtown Jackson, surrounded by a new vibrant nightlife. Downtown Jackson was booming with activity and excitement before COVID put everything on pause," Vitale said.

When it comes to what events like this can do for the comedy scene in Jackson, Vitale said he had success with comedy shows in 2018 and 2019 so he knew bringing nationally-recognized comedians "right here in our own backyard" would be a great opportunity for the community.

Vitale also highlighted  another benefit to hosting shows at venues like the Michigan Theatre, "With no comedy venues nearby it provides people in Jackson and surrounding areas to avoid having to drive a long distance to get quality entertainment."

According to Vitale, there are more events on the horizon but for now, MLive says tickets to the April 23rd show are available on the Michigan Theatre website.
