It was a Michigan encounter that would develop into a life-long friendship for late comic and actor Bob Saget.

A chance encounter at a Detroit area comedy club would lead to Saget meeting fellow comedian Dave Coulier, years before the two would find themselves sharing the screen on the hit comedy Full House. The meeting would lead to a lifelong friendship that stayed strong right until Saget passed away on January 9th.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Coulier told the story of the pairs first meeting during Saget's podcast, Bob Saget's Here For You back in 2020. Coulier, a Michigander who grew up in St. Clair Shores, reflected on meeting Saget for the first time at a Ferndale club named Delta Lady during comedy night. Saget was just 22 and making his name in comedy, while Coulier was an 18-year-old newcomer, but the bond was instant. They exchanged numbers and the rest was true friendship history.

In 1980, Saget made his way back to Detroit to make his first appearance at Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle. Coulier commented in the interview, that during Saget's appearance at Ridley's he would stay in the basement of Coulier's parents house.  Ridley's would become a favorite common spot for Saget to perform during his career once commenting,

“There’s just something about the audiences in Detroit that I’ve always felt connected to. Detroit is different. I literally was there twice a year for 15 years.”

Saget and Coulier would go on to star on “Full House” together from 1987 through 1995 and come together once again on “Fuller House” from 2016 through 2020. They regarded each other as family until the end. A heartbroken Coulier posted to Twitter his thoughts on his friends passing saying, "I’ll never let go, brother. Love you".
