Fake Fidelity Investment Emails
There is a brand-new scam going around Lansing, and it is one you should not ignore. The Lansing Township Police are warning residents that scammers are emailing them, posing as Fidelity Investments and claiming there have been unusual login attempts on their financial accounts.
The message asks recipients to log in and re-enter their passwords, which is a trick to steal sensitive information.
Bogus Secretary of State Fee Texts
This is not the only scam Michigan police are battling. Another involves bogus texts impersonating the Secretary of State, threatening license suspensions if “fees” are not paid immediately.
Meanwhile, authorities continue to see toll-related scam texts supposedly from “MDOT,” telling recipients to pay fake unpaid toll bills, even though there are no toll roads in the state.
How to Report a Scam
These are not harmless pranks. Scammers are working hard to steal your money and identity. They rely on urgency and fear, but Michigan law enforcement will never randomly message you demanding payments or passwords.
If you receive an email or text from an unofficial domain or one that asks for personal information, delete it immediately. Never click on links just because something looks official.
Law enforcement is asking that if you see any of these messages in your inbox, you report them to the police or the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Team.
