Michigan Raising Auto Fee By $30 This July
I know we pay so much to drive in Michigan, even though most cars are made here, well get ready to pay a little bit more now. According to WLNS, Michigan's mandatory fee to cover unlimited medical benefits for injured drivers is rising to $220 a year. This was raised by the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association, due to higher number of claims and raising medical care costs. The raising fee won't be seen immediately but it will be kicked in starting in July, so if you are renewing or getting a new car then be prepared to pay more.
The $220 fee per vehicle is more than double of what it was 10 years ago and the highest in the country. The annual fee per insured vehicle is $192 right now. The money that is paid by drivers is to cover care for people with brain, spinal cord, back and neck injuries for their life, which is something that only Michigan does.
