Your Lansing Lugnuts got cheated out of their 25th anniversary season because of Covid-19. But when life gives you lemons, you make a Lemonade League.

Tell me you saw that coming from a mile away.

So first off, what's a lemonade league?

Here's what we know:

  • We get at least 17 dates set for games to be played in the college wood-bat league at Cooley Law School Stadium from July 23 - August 20.
  • The Lemonade League players themselves will be announced early next week, with teams split into the Collegiate Lugnuts vs. the Collegiate Locos.
  • The league will use yellow baseballs in place of the regular white balls; games are shortened to seven innings from nine innings; and if a game is tied at the conclusion of seven innings, a one-on-one Home Run Derby will determine the winning team. (milb.com)

Ticket prices will be $12 bucks each with season ticket holders getting first crack at them. Games will be limited to 100 fans with face masks and social distancing protocols in place.

Can't make it to the game? They'll be live streamed free.

And for a nominal fee ($50) you can be a face in the crowd. Literally. They'll feature you likeness as a weatherproof cardboard cutout to fill up the stands.

By the way, Nuts and Bolts is open. The Lugnuts official merchandise store. Where I get all my hats. Swing by and grab some gear. And how about a bobblehead or four.

Let's play ball Lansing!
