It looks like we're going to be kicking off this weekend with a little snow.

The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY.

It's being listed as a MODERATE winter weather advisory for Thursday afternoon to Friday night.

Break out the shovels folks. Accumulation is expected to be between 3 inches to 5 inches.

This weekend also kicks off a pretty decent stretch of a cold snap that we're going to be stuck in for about 2 weeks.

The first cold blast will blow into Michigan this Friday or Saturday. Right now it appears the peak of the cold will have high temperatures running about 20 degrees colder than average. (MLive)

And seeing as we're going to get plenty of snow this weekend, you might want to go ahead and make your reservations to go tubing and sledding at Hawk Island.

Here is the official Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service.


* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches.
  Winds gusting as high as 40 mph late Thursday night and Friday.
  Rapidly falling temperatures Thursday night into the teens. Wind
  chills only around zero on Friday.

* WHERE...Portions of central, south central and southwest

* WHEN...From 4 PM Thursday to 7 PM EST Friday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow
  could significantly reduce visibility. Hazardous conditions may
  impact the Thursday evening commute, with worse conditions
  expected for the Friday commutes. The roads will become
  increasingly icy and snow covered Thursday night into Friday
  morning. Isolated power outages. (NWS)
