We've hit a new month, and that means you are looking forward to Valentine's Day and President's Day sales. But there are a few things to buy this month and a few you should skip. These buys and skips are from NerdWallet.com, who makes lists on products and shopping. They created this list so you can make the most of your money this month.

First, I mentioned last month how you shouldn't buy a TV in the month of January since most places know people want a new TV for the Super Bowl so they raise prices. We are now a few days after the game, so if you didn't buy a TV in the last few months and you have been waiting a while to buy one, this time is the best. According to Nerd Wallet, big screen TVs before the game are at average of $750, and if you wait a week or two after the game, you can save hundreds on the TV you have always wanted.

Next, this might only work if you can get your significant other to agree on waiting to celebrate Valentine's Day a few days later. If you wait just a day you can save upwards of 50% on chocolate and other sweet treats for Valentine's Day. Plus, if you are looking for non-perishable items (such as decorations and cards) then wait to buy them until February 15th and you will be able to save for next year.

The last buy this month might seem weird because we are still in winter but Winter Attire is a must this month. Also, it doesn't matter if you are looking for clothing or winter sports equipment cause you can get them at a deal now and still get some use out of them. Winter products are on their way out the door because many retailers have already released spring arrivals, which typically hit shelves at full price.

Finally, I mentioned the buys, but here are the don't buys this month. Valentine's Day is of course coming up soon, so Nerd Wallet says to avoid buying flowers. Flowers are a Valentine’s Day staple, but if you’re not careful, they’ll overwhelm your budget. Try and look for another gift and maybe one that doesn't have a two week shelf life. TVs was a buy this month, but you should avoid purchasing any other consumer electronics such as laptops, desktops, tablets and video game consoles. Those are best bought in November, during Black Friday sales. If you can't wait until Black Friday, Amazon will be doing their Prime days this Summer.

You can see more on the buys and don't buys this month here. Plus they also mention their buys during President's Day sales.
