When Potterville High School students, past and present, found out Anita Hall was losing her job, the community came together to try to help.

According to the Lansing State Journal, Hall has worked for the school for two decades and has gained a reputation among students being supportive and kind-hearted to those who need it.

Onika Meyers, a student who said she has known Hall since kindergarten and always looked forward to seeing Hall was upset when she heard the news she was about to lose her job.

Meyers decided to try to do something about it with a petition that has over 550 signatures.

The reason for all of this comes from a decision the Potterville Public Schools Board of Education voted on Jan. 28 in which the district would contract with Chartwells for food services, meaning five current Potterville workers, including Hall, will be laid off.

Multiple former students shared their stories about Hall and her involvement with the students and the community, highlighting just how much she means to Potterville.

According to Meyers, who has been in contact with the school's superintendent, “All of us think of her more like a friend or a grandma that we can rely on" and added they would be losing "more than a lunch lady."
