We love updates like this.

We start with the news from November last year about the Governor wanting to put about $5 billion back in our pockets.

Whitmer sent out a press release asking the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) to deliver refund checks to every Michigander with auto insurance. Shea says the refund is possible in part because of auto insurance reform that was signed into law by the governor in 2019.

In December, we found out we'd be getting that refund this year (2022). And it appeared that the government would be doing something good for us? Insurance reform was real? What?

In a nutshell here is what we are to believe. The state government has worked on our behalf so Michigan drivers will get a refund of sorts (cashback) from surplus insurance funds. It'll be around $400. And we get it in 2022?!?

Last month, we found out that they had to get us the payments by May 9th.

You should have your $400 insurance refund check by Monday, May 9th. Checks will be mailed or via direct deposit. If for some reason you do not receive your money by then, you should contact your insurance provider.

You could see that money in your bank accounts THIS WEEK.

Monday (March 7th) Governor Gretchen Whitmer said that auto insurance refund checks will start being sent out this week.

Every Michigander, who had insured at least one vehicle at 11:59 p.m. Oct. 31 of last year, will get a $400-dollar check per vehicle. More information on eligibility can be found HERE. (WILX)

That's great news in the face of rising gas prices, a Russian oil ban, and...rising insurance rates? Wait...what?

Michigan's auto insurance rates are one of the worst in the entire United States and now companies are going to raise premiums again in 2022. They are claiming it is because of supply chain issues and inflation.

According to FOX 17, Michigan insurance rates will go up 6 to 15% in 2022.

You might want to hold on to that refund. You'll need it for when the rates go up.
