According to an article in the Lansing State Journal, the state of Michigan can save some serious cash this year by cutting down on some prison costs. Michigan, along with most of the country, is pretty packed when it comes to their prison populations, and I feel like they have been that way for awhile too. Anyway, the short of it is, the government can save up to $250 million bucks if they just minimize their prison population by just 10,000 prisoners. Now, I know what you're thinking. This is a terrible idea! Why would we let murderers and rapists back out in to society. Okay. Clearly that is not what's going to happen here. It's not like they're going to put some prisoners names in a hat and pick one to let them back out in the world, no matter their crime.

People should take note of all of the times that we hear on the news that the state is broke and what can we do to get more money. How are we going to get funding to fix our roads? How about a pretty easy and cool 250 mil? I know I'm in. There are a number of senior citizens imprisoned that need numerous amounts of attention while they are incarcerated. Like the article says, Governor Snyder said criminal justice reform would be a priority for his administration when he took office. I think that there needs to be reform to say the least. Especially with misdemeanor marijuana and traffic charges. Some of the things that people end up going to jail for are ridiculous and honestly, the time they serve is even more insane. So, what do YOU think? Would you sign off on this?
