More than 12,000 pounds of bacon are being pulled from store shelves after federal officials discovered the products had entered the United States without receiving a required inspection.

Which Bacon Products Are Included?

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. is recalling about 12,036 pounds of not-ready-to-eat smoked bacon imported from Canada.

The recall includes 12-ounce packages sold under the Royale and Top Valu brand names.

How to Identify the Recalled Bacon

The affected products are Royale Natural Applewood Smoked All Natural Uncured Bacon and Top Valu Uncured Hardwood Smoked Bacon.

Federal officials say the bacon was produced on several dates between June 9 and June 15, 2026. The packages were sent to grocery distributors and retailers in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, including some Grocery Outlet locations.

The recalled Royale bacon has sell-by dates of September 1 or September 7, 2026.

The Top Valu bacon has sell-by dates of September 1, 2, 4, 5, or 7, 2026.

Both products were sold in vacuum-sealed packages and have the Canadian establishment number “EST. 1” printed on the side.

Why Was the Bacon Recalled?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service discovered the problem during routine inspection work. Officials say the bacon was imported without undergoing the reinspection required when meat products enter the country.

The recall has been classified as Class I, the USDA’s most important recall category. No serious illnesses or injuries have been connected to the recalled item, though.

What Should Consumers Do Next?

Anyone who becomes sick or has concerns after eating the recalled bacon should contact a healthcare provider.

Because bacon can be frozen for months, officials are also asking consumers to check their freezers.

If you have the recalled bacon, you are being asked to return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
