If you love bird-watching here in Michigan, the W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary in Augusta is offering "Birds and Coffee" virtually so you don't miss out on the fun.

We here in Michigan have some unique opportunities when it comes to bird watching. Not only are there so many species of birds to see and learn about but every year we get to progressively see more and more birds make their way back to the Mitten from their southern vacations.

My grandpa was big on birds. He always had the perfect setup to be able to watch the birds from his kitchen window. Spring was always the best time to sit with him and watch as different birds made their way to his various feeders and even, if we got lucky and were paying attention, some hummingbirds!

W.K. Bird Sanctuary, according to MLive, used to host their popular Birds and Coffee walking series every season before the COVID-19 pandemic but they have found a way to make it virtual!

There are three virtual Birds and Coffee chats scheduled for the spring which MLive says will be hosted on Zoom by W.K. Kellogg Biological Station educators.

The first chat will be on Wednesday, April 14th about cavity-nesting birds, of which they give Eastern Bluebirds and House Wrens as examples.

Next will be all about Warblers on Wednesday, May 12th and the final spring chat will take place June 9th at 10 a.m. where grassland birds will be the topic of discussion.

Find details for each chat HERE.

These events are a great way for bird lovers across the state to get connected as the Birds and Coffee chats are free to the public (though donations are appreciated) as long as you complete required registration.

Maybe this will finally be the season I pick up bird watching as a new hobby!
