Some folks don't have reactions like I do. I love meeting people. Especially folks that I don't normally get to see in person and are kind of a big deal. This was one of those meetings.

Well, I guess I should back up a little bit. I did meet Mayor Andy Schor when I first moved here.

It was at Silver Bells In The City. Downtown Lansing. And he was with then outgoing Mayor Virg Bernero.

I didn't meet him per say. I took this picture.

You would assume that the mayor (both old and new) would be present at an event like Sliver Bells.

But not just wandering down the street and hanging out with people on a Wednesday. That's just where I ran into him earlier this week.

Mayor Schor just chillin' and hanging with the peeps.

The event this past Wednesday was put on Michigan Premiere Events and called Collaborate Lansing.

It was a lunch hour where folks and businesses from all walks of life could come, hang, and network.

And there, walking down the street and out of the corner of my eye I see this guy.

Actually walking towards me. Just to say hi.

He has been going through it lately. And this isn't an election plug or anything. This is a guy who's been hit with some pretty serious allegations over some pretty serious issues in a re-election cycle.

On Saturday the group chanted “respect our wishes or resign” outside they mayor's house. On Sunday Schor was shouted down at the Capitol as he stammered to give a crowd-pleasing number when protesters holding “Defund the Police” signs asked how much he would strip from the nearly $47 million-dollar 2020 police budget. The Mayor's not the biggest or the loudest guy I know. If you look at the picture, you can see he's definitely smaller than me. But amidst calls for his resignation and a somewhat intense re-election bid, this man of small stature has took some blows and is still standing.

Here he was showing support for a local networking initiative. Walking down the street. By himself. Hanging with the people.

I was pretty surprised.

I was also impressed.

I even told him so.

"Must be pretty rough man. Everything ok? You doing alright?"

The Mayor just smiled and said, "all part of the job", gave me a hand shake, said thanks and continued to hang out. Even took some more pictures.

He wasn't even scared of good ole "Mad Dog" Dave Demarco from our sister station The Game 730 AM/WVFN. That's saying something if you know Dave.

I like to see my politicians out and about. In the streets. Meeting people AFTER they are elected. Not afraid to be out even when the going is tough.

Glad to officially meet you and hang with you Mr. Mayor.

I like that guy.

The next round of elections in Michigan are November 2nd, 2021.
