Kroger to Shut Down 5% of Stores—Michigan Could Be Affected
We've seen a lot of stores, businesses, and even restaurants close their doors over the past few years, and that number just keeps rising. From major chains like Joann Fabrics to other places like Red Lobster and more, we've seen numerous closures over the past year.

It was just announced that another major retail chain is set to close about 5% of its stores nationwide.
Kroger, a company that first got its start in Ohio, announced that it is set to close over 60 locations nationwide. While those locations have yet to be announced, it is likely that a few could be in Michigan.
What’s Behind Kroger’s Decision?
The announcement comes after the retailer saw a dip in their sales. The numbers weren't enough to be concerning; however, it was enough for the retailer to rethink some of their strategies.
Kroger’s Strongest Performing Departments
Kroger's pharmacy sales, fresh produce, as well as digital orders are all doing well. The hope is to shift their focus to their better-performing locations and shift away from those that may not be doing as well. This hopefully means upgrades to the remaining locations.
How Kroger Plans to Support Workers
Just recently in Michigan, too, several employees walked out across the state over concerns about unfair labor practices. The looming pressure of potential closures could be putting some of its employees on high alert, too.
While it's never good news for employees to hear of closures, the company said that it will help their workers find new locations for its current employees to work.
