Kmart had it's beginnings as Kresge's as far back as 1899 when it was founded by S.S. Kresge; the name "Kmart" popped up in the refurbished Kresge stores in 1962, the first one opening in Garden City, Michigan.

I remember what fun it was going to Kmart as a kid...
SUBMARINE SANDWICHES FOR ONLY 25 CENTS!

"ATTENTION, KMART SHOPPERS!"

BLUE LIGHT SPECIALS
where the Kmart announcer was more like a sniper.....you never knew when he/she was gonna strike next!

Kmart was HUGE back then...it wiped out all competitors and people flocked to the stores, especially on weekends and holidays, where you could find ANYthing for your shopping needs.

I dug the toys when I was a kid.....and once I became a teenager, I frequented the record department where you could find albums anywhere from $2.69 (mono) to $3.69 (stereo) and the singles were always under a buck!

What memories do YOU have of Kmart? As more & more stores close up around the country, those who grew up with Kmart are getting nostalgic and remembering what fun it was...way before malls, Meijer, Walmart, etc.

AND JUST HOW DO YOU MAKE THOSE KMART SUB SANDWICHES?
The video below claims to know how to make them...it shows the sandwiches on a round bun, but I remember 'em in a regular, long sub bun. Watch and see if this recipe is correct!
