USA Today’s 10 Best Historic Hotels in the U.S. list was just announced and making the list is a hotel located in one of the most historic places in America, Mackinac Island.  Interestingly enough, it's the hotel you may be thinking of.

The Island House Hotel, which is considered one of the most historic in Michigan, made the list landing in the tenth spot of those historic places to stay. Opened in 1852 as a beach house, the charming hotel sits right on Main Street putting guests close to all the action of downtown.

"Located on the south shore of a small island in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, this charming family-run hotel dates back to the Fillmore administration. Since then, the Island House Hotel has seen many updates and now welcomes guests with cozy rooms and modern amenities. However, the fact that it's on Mackinac Island, which doesn't allow cars, will help transport you back to a simpler time", USA Today wrote.

In being named one of the "Top 10 Best Historic Hotels in America", the Island House Hotel has not only secured its place in history but also earned some welcomed notoriety around the country and the world.

Each of the 10 legendary accommodations was chosen after being nominated for the title of Best Historic Hotel by a panel of hotel experts and then voted as the best by USA Today readers.
