13 Red Flags About Moving to Michigan You Need to Know
Living in the Great Lakes State has its advantages, like always being within an hour or two's drive from a lake at any given time. But, there are plenty of drawbacks too.
I'm not saying that as Michiganders we don't love our state. Heck, our state motto translates to "If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you."
All I'm saying is that we love our state enough to look past a few "red flags". Or at least put up with them (more than your ex's red flags, anyway).
Red Flags About Michigan
So, while the great state of Michigan might be beautiful and have plenty of advantages... if you're considering moving here, you should be well aware of all of Michigan's red flags.
If you've done some research on your prospective state, you probably already know a few things about our roads and the cost of car insurance, but there are a few more things you'll want to be aware of.

Here are 13 red flags that the state of Michigan is waving.
13. Deer are absolutely everywhere
And basically seem to be waiting to jump out in front of your car.
12. Allergy season might do you in
My condolences for anyone who battles seasonal allergies, because Michigan will give you a run for your money.
11. Tourist season is also tricky
You love that small towns are seeing patronage, but there's not a single parking spot in sight.
10. Great Lakes rip currents
Our Great Lakes are salt and shark free, and free from undertow. However, we do have to deal with rip currents, and they can be deadly.

You have to pay to cross the Mackinac Bridge. Not to mention, if you're afraid of heights, this might not be the bridge for you...

Seasonal depression is the pits and rampant this time of year.
5. Sports heartbreak
If you root for a Detroit sports team, heartbreak is inevitable, even when the team seems to be doing well.
4. Wild weather mood swings
One day it's 80 and sunny, the next it's below freezing and threatening snow.
3. Car insurance rates
They're terrible. Enough said.
2. Construction as far as the eye can see
At any given time, Michigan is experiencing one of two seasons: Winter or construction.
1. The roads
Despite the fact that there's always construction going on, there are still potholes that could swallow a small sedan.
