If you have filled up your tank recently up here in Michigan, you probably noticed that it didn't hurt you as badly as it has felt recently.

Gas Prices Start to Dip Across Michigan

Gas prices across Michigan are finally starting to dip a little to kick off the week. The current statewide average is still around $3.87 per gallon, which is down roughly 9 cents from last week.

Still Higher Than Last Month and Last Year

Prices are still way up, so hold off on celebrating. These prices are still up about 60 cents higher than they were about a month ago, and they're also noticeably higher than they were this time last year.

While a step in the right direction, we aren't necessarily out of the woods just yet.

AAA says that this is the first real drop that we have seen after more than five straight weeks of prices climbing, so this is basically the pump giving us a small breather. But the keyword there is small.

First Drop After Weeks of Increases

There is still a lot of pressure coming from oil prices, and if that shifts again, we could see those prices go right back up.

If you're in Mid-Michigan, there is at least a little good news. In the Lansing area, prices are averaging around $3.81 a gallon, which is actually a bit lower than the state average.

How Mid-Michigan Prices Compare

Filling up still isn't cheap, though. A typical 15-gallon tank is running around $58 right now, which is more than what drivers were paying peak prices last summer.

Prices are down, and we will take the win. Just don't expect this to suddenly turn into a cheap gas overnight situation.
