Due to the extreme dry conditions, numerous communities have issued "burn bans," telling residents that it's too dangerous to have an outdoor fire or even light off fireworks.

As we feared might happen, we were told that City of Mason Fire Chief Kerry Minshall announced the cancellation of the 4th of July fireworks display at the Ingham County Fairgrounds in Mason.

However, in an email to 97.5 NOW FM on Thursday morning, Chief Minshall dispelled that rumor, saying "At this time we still plan to have the fireworks program on Monday July 4th at dusk."

The ever-evolving forecast presently calls for thunderstorms on Friday.  If that model holds, maybe it will make the difference and ease concerns about the risk of fire, possibly even leading to a lifting of the burn bans facing many communities.

Meanwhile, the State Fire Marshall is considering a statewide burn ban.
