It is that weird part of fall when everyone ends up getting sick because it is cold enough that everyone is forced to be inside, and all those illnesses start spreading around. State health officials here in Michigan are warning of an increase in flu cases, which have seen a rise across the state, including respiratory infections currently circulating.

It doesn't help that school is back in session, and with the colder temperatures, people are all huddling inside to stay warm. This is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria.

What is Being Reported Now

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services tracks this every week, and their latest reports show that these flu numbers are starting to climb. Especially heading into November and December, which is typically when these numbers really go up.

As of now, nobody should be panicking, but if you haven't gotten your flu shot yet here in Michigan, this is the time to do it, not when everyone around you is sick in January. Plus, those flu shots need more than a few weeks to kick in to help protect you.

What Michigan Health Officials Are Seeing

Doctors are also reminding parents to keep an eye on their kids right now, because some of the sharper cases in young patients like high fevers, body aches, the classic flu combo. And since RSV and COVID are still doing their thing right now, even a little protection helps people avoid being in the hospital.
