As I sit here writing this, I am actually watching the Met Gala at the time and as all the stars are showing up for "fashion's biggest night" I can't help but reminisce on the "camp" theme from 2019. I felt like it was really a night to celebrate a culture drag queens created.

Drag queens have been the reason so many of our fashion, pop culture and artistic moments have happened for us. Drag culture is something that absolutely deserves to be celebrated and I am so excited that is happening right here in Jackson.

Drag Queens in Jackson?

YES! You did read that right.

I'm not even going to lie, that was one of the first "nights out" I had when I moved up to Grand Rapids was to a Halloween drag show. There were always drag brunches and other events going on around town. When I moved back to Jackson, I wasn't sure there would be chances to celebrate people that mean so much to me.

However, as I was scrolling through an "Events in Jackson" Facebook page and saw that the Jackson Pride Center is putting on a "Drag Show Extravaganza."

About the Jackson Pride Center

The Jackson Pride Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that are dedicated to helping "bridge a gap in advocacy, strengthen our community through education, and build stronger interpersonal relationships."

They achieve this through their various programs, community resources and events like their upcoming drag show.

"To connect our diverse community to opportunities, resources and each other to achieve our vision of a stronger, healthier, and more equitable world for LGBTQ people and our allies," is what the Jackson Pride Center says their mission is and we can see them doing just that through their work and events like this.

A Real "Eleganza Extravaganza" in Jackson

According to the "RuPaul's Drag Race Dictionary", the term "Eleganza Extravaganza" means "Having high amounts of elegance" which this event promises, while also bringing "music, comedy and glamor."

The EventBrite page about the "Extravaganza" says the performance will feature six performers kicking things off at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 16th, at the Weatherwax Hall in the Jackson Symphony.

If you have a General Admission ticket ($10 each), the doors will open at 7:15 PM. However, for VIP's and friends, EventBrite says doors will open at 6:30 for appetizers.

There will be a cash bar and they say during the show, guests can expect "music, comedy and live interaction with the crowd."
