I am here to say that candy corn is my guilty pleasure but why does it have to be that way? Why does it have to have "guilty" in front of it?

Sure, there are so many ways people have besmirched the integrity of candy corn...you heard of these "Turkey dinner" ones? Those, admittedly, crossed the line.

You can find it all year round but candy corn is one of those treats you really go all-out for in the fall.

I'm even incorporating candy corn into my fall decorations and I know I am not alone in that. A nice little candy dish or jar filled with candy corn just adds a little festive twist.

Candy corn is just such a simple little snack that you don't have to worry too much about because it is so tiny so you can eat way more of it without the, at least, caloric guilt.

Can we talk about how good those little variety packs are that come with traditional candy corn, candy corn with the chocolate bottoms and mellowcreme pumpkins are?

Apparently, the treat originated because of farmers back in the 1880s.

According to history.com, agriculture-themed candies became popular, thus candy shaped like corn kernels was the way to go.

Eventually Goelitz Candy Company (now Jelly Belly) popularized it after getting the recipe in 1898 and began marketing it by calling it "Chicken Feed."

They say before World War I, corn wasn't really considered "people food" but wartime changed that.

"It wasn't until war-time wheat shortages in 1917 that any but the poorest Americans would have considered corn flour, corn meal, or corn bread acceptable foodstuffs," said History.

Eventually candy corn gained traction throughout the years and now people continue to either gobble down or try to peck away the candy's significance.

Now, I understand, you can like whatever you like and we all have completely different tastes but take this moment to consider changing your mind.

Candy corn is a great treat and has some fun history behind it. Also, one time I tried it on a peanut butter sandwich and it was actually pretty good so take that however you will when it comes to my credibility when speaking on candy corn.

2012 sure was a strange time...

Either way, I am going to make sure to get out and enjoy me a big old bowl of these tri-colored, sugar and corn syrup treats and will make sure to tell any haters they are "CORNY."
