Dear Radio: An Open Letter From Large

Dear Radio:

You and I have been together for 31 years. 31! Holy cow. And Tuesday was National Radio Day. It took me back a little bit. So many friends and family who I have met in this business, posted photos on social media the other day. And the memories took me back.

It all stated for me in 1988 at Central Michigan University. Little on campus station called 91 Rock FM. WMHW. Moore Hall. They let me on one night a week. Late nights. Graveyard shift. Playing vinyl on large platter turntables. We used carts. It was magic. And that's where one McConnell Adams (Man @ Large) got his feet wet.

I've been blessed to work as far north as Gaylord and Traverse City (WKPK/106.7 The Peak), Bay City/Saginaw/Midland/Flint (102.5 WIOG), Mt. Pleasant (WCFX - All Hits 95 CFX), Battle Creek (WBXX B-95), Detroit (WHYT/96.3 & 93-1 DRQ). Out of state to Dallas, Fort Wayne, and Alaska (Anchorage and Fairbanks).

I used to drive through Lansing to get to Central. I remember the mighty WVIC. And The Edge. I heard a guy I get to work with now who is a complete legend and awesome dude in Danny Stewart. And a great friend who I worked with in Detroit who used to work here at WVIC named Hollywood Hendrix. And a still great friend of mine who used to work with Rich Michaels named Lisa Farrell. I worked briefly on WHZZ back in the day when it was Z 101.7.

I got my degree in 93 from Central. Broadcast and Cinematic Arts. Broadcast Communications. I almost went to State. But when I visited it was so big it scared the bejezzus out of me. And I couldn't get on the air my first year.

31 years. I've been up. I've been down. I've been almost around the world and out of the country at least 4 times because of this business. Been on tv, met some people, been to some concerts, been backstage, and most importantly...I'VE BEEN BLESSED.

I almost threw this career away several times because of my demon and addictions. But God!

God has blessed me. And I am thankful.

And I couldn't dream of doing anything else.

Cause this, is my dream.
