Wiers Farm is currently issuing a voluntary recall due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Cucumber Recall Affecting Michigan

 

The affected products include whole cucumbers packaged on June 5th, 2024, and bagged salad cucumbers packaged on June 5th and June 6th, 2024.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause listeriosis, a serious infection affecting primarily older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

 

Symptoms of Listeria Monocytogenes:

Symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea, with more severe cases potentially leading to complications like meningitis. While healthy individuals may experience only short-term symptoms, listeriosis can be life-threatening in vulnerable populations.

The contamination was discovered through routine sampling by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). As a precautionary measure, consumers are advised not to consume the recalled products and to discard them immediately.

The affected cucumbers were distributed to select Walmart stores in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. Wiers Farm is working closely with regulatory authorities, including the Ohio Department of Agriculture, to address the issue swiftly and ensure the highest standards of food safety are maintained.
