If you've got a "just one square" chocolate bar living in your pantry, this is your sign to do a quick label check on it.

The FDA says Spring & Mulberry is expanding a voluntary recall of several chocolate bars that may be contaminated with Salmonella. The company originally pulled its Mint Leaf bar, and now seven additional flavors have been added to the list. The bars were sold nationwide, including here in the state of Michigan, both online and at select retail shops starting on September 15, 2025.

Here is what you should look for.

The lot number is printed on the back of that package, and on the inner flow wrap. If your bar matches any of these, don't eat it.

  • Earl Grey — lot 025258
  • Lavender Rose — lots 025259, 025260
  • Mango Chili — lot 025283
  • Mint Leaf — lot 025255
  • Mixed Berry — lots 025275, 025281, 025337
  • Mulberry Fennel — lot 025345
  • Pecan Date — lots 025261, 025265, 025267, 025268, 025339, 025343
  • Pure Dark Minis — lot 025273

According to the recall notice, the contamination concern was flagged during routine testing at a third-party laboratory. As of the announcement, no illnesses had been reported, but Salmonella isn't something you want to take lightly, especially with kids, older adults, or anyone with a weakened immune system.

If you bought one of the affected bars, the advice is simple. You should toss it, and contact the company for a refund. It is annoying to ditch chocolate at any time of the year, but foodborne illnesses are worse.

If someone has already eaten it and started feeling sick (fever, stomach cramps, vomiting, or diarrhea), it is worth calling a healthcare provider, especially if your symptoms are severe or don't improve.
