The answer according to a study from St. Andrews University in Scotland, is that water is full of lies.  It turns out that the most hydrating drink you can drink is not water.  In fact, water ranks relatively low on the list of most hydrating beverages.

The university tested the hydrating qualities of 13 different beverages and most people were shocked to find out that still water placed 10th on the list and sparkling water 11th.

It turns out that water is lacking, fats, sugars, and other nutrients, so your body will pass the water through your system quicker than drinks that have fats, sugars, and nutrients.  So, based off of the fact that it has nutrients, sugars, and even some fat, the most hydrating drink ends up being skim milk.  Huh?  Here's the entire list from most to least hydrating:

  1. Skim milk
  2. Oral rehydration solutions (like Pedialyte or Liquid I.V.)
  3. Whole milk
  4. Orange juice
  5. Cola
  6. Diet Cola
  7. Cold tea
  8. Warm/hot Tea
  9. Sports drinks
  10. Still water
  11. Sparkling water
  12. Lager (beer)
  13. Coffee

Personally, we think it's crazy that cola, orange juice, and even tea is more hydrating than water, but according to the study by St. Andrews University, it's true.
