Warning: A Massive Fast Food Recall Hitting Michigan
Michigan, alongside New Mexico and Washington are those who are now on the affected states list.
Hospitalizations have also increased, with 12 more individuals requiring care, making 22 total hospitalizations. Tragically, this includes a previous death in Colorado and two cases of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious complication—one in a child and the latest in an adult.
The most recent data reveals that the recent illness was on October 10, 2024. During interviews, all 42 affected individuals reported eating at McDonald’s before falling ill, with nearly everyone mentioning they’d ordered a Quarter Pounder.
No other retail chains are connected to these illnesses. The exact ingredient responsible hasn’t been identified, but investigators are focusing on two potential sources: the fresh slivered onions and fresh beef patties used in the Quarter Pounder.
Because of the incident, Taylor Farms, which supplies the onions to McDonald’s, has issued a recall on yellow onions, and the affected McDonald's locations have removed the implicated products.
The CDC made it known that they are taking actions with McDonald's and Taylor Farms, the risk to the public remains low. However, the FDA continues investigating, and further recalls may follow as updates emerge.
E. coli is a bacteria, commonly found in the intestines of humans and animals. While most strains of E. coli are harmless and even play an important role in healthy digestion, some strains can cause illness, especially when they contaminate food or water.
