Taylor Swift, Queen of Felines, to Star in ‘Cats’ Movie Adaptation
Taylor Swift's beloved pet Olivia Benson has good reason to purr — Swift, avowed queen of felines, will star in a brand new Cats movie adaptation, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed early Friday morning (July 20).
Jennifer Hudson, James Corden and Ian McKellen will also star in the film, the site says, which will find direction from Tom Hooper.
The origin musical, the fourth longest-running in Broadway history, follows a tribe of larger-than-life cats called the Jellicles, who must "decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life." The show won the Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Original Score and more in 1983.
Production of the film will begin later this year in the United Kingdom, at which point additional cast members will be announced.
The role seems like a long time coming for Swift, who's been open about her love of cats over the years, and routinely includes them in her Instagram photos.
"I am alone a lot, which is good. I need that time to just be alone after a long day, just decompress. So, I go to either my house or the hotel, or my apartment, or whatever - wherever I am, I go home and I watch TV and I sit there, with my cat, and I just watch TV or go online, check my emails," she told Taste of Country during an interview.
