What Is Student Debt Forgiveness And Why LCC Is Making People Happy
People tend to think that getting into a good college and then getting that degree is the hardest part of continuing your education.
The hardest part is figuring out how to pay for it both when you're going and after you're done.
Student debt is no joke.
Student loan debt in the United States totals $1.73 trillion and grows 6 times faster than the nation’s economy.*(educationdata)
BTW, the U.S. National Debt is around $28 trillion.
The average student load debt per borrower by state: Michigan = $35.9K (educationdata)
Is anyone doing anything to help?
The buzz words on everyone's lips are STUDENT LOAN FORGIVENESS.
Can the President do anything about it?
"People think that the President of the United States has the power for debt forgiveness — he does not," Pelosi said during her weekly press conference on Wednesday. "He can postpone, he can delay, but he does not have that power. That would have to be an act of Congress." (yahoo finance)
While they work all that out on a national level, locally one college is actually doing something about it and they are using federal funding.
Thank you LCC
Lansing Community College announced it will forgive student debt from the Fall of 2017 through the spring of 2021. This is a one-time program and is only for students that owe money specifically to LCC, it is not for students that have debt outside of Lansing Community College. (WILX)
