Should Michigan Issue Another ‘Stay At Home’ Order? [Poll]
In the last month there have been over 30,000 new positive cases of COVID-19, the highest amount since the beginning of the pandemic. And for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, Michigan's 7-day case average has been over 1,500 new cases. But, as of right now, the hospitalizations due to COVID-19 and the deaths associated with the virus have not risen with the increase in cases.
The case numbers, however, do have many across the state worried, including Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Whitmer addressed the state on Wednesday saying that "We are now at our peak when it comes to daily new cases". She also went on to say "If you want your kids to have the prospect of in-person learning, if you want to stay back at work, if you want to keep your business open or make sure that businesses stay open, every one of us has to do our part."
In her address to the state on the coronavirus pandemic, she never directly says that Michigan is currently in need of another shutdown, but the quote we mentioned previously sure implies that we might be heading in that direction.
Currently, no states have reverted back to a complete shutdown, but 11 states have either paused their reopening or started to reverse course. Michigan is currently considered to be completely open with minor restrictions.
But, with cases climbing some people are hoping to close schools, restrict businesses even further, and even possibly reinstitute a stay at home order. What do you think Michigan should do to flatten the curve? Vote in our poll below.
