There used to be over 2,000 Kmart stores around the US around 15 years ago but now after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection only two-thirds still remain. Now after the last few years of slowing sales Kmart announced that more stores will be closing.

Nearly two thirds of the 2,165 Kmart stores that were operating in the U.S. have closed since 2000. Seven stores in the state are slated to close Dec. 11, including locations in Jackson and Fenton.  Hopefully the Kmart store on Cedar St. here in Lansing, will not be affected.

More than 130 nationwide closures have been announced this year, and here's more details on it.
