Katy Perry, teetotaler? She was, for a period of 90 days, and by choice.

The singer went through the emotional wringer when she split with husband Russell Brand after a short-lived, high-profile marriage. She did some extreme things to help purge her life and heart of her ex-husband and the pain she felt from the union's collapse, including an alcohol-free cleanse.

Perry spoke about her detox with British TV presenter Alan Carr on his 'Chatty Man' show, saying, "You know, I did a lot of different things. I surrounded myself with my good friends, I did this whole cleanse where I didn't have any alcohol for three months — that was devastating — I did vitamins and supplements, and hikes and meditation and prayer."

Sounds boring, but necessary! Anyone going through heartbreak might want to take notes, since it helped Perry get over her heartsickness.

In a decidedly New Age way, Perry said, "I think at the end of it all, as much as the things I did, I think there was something cosmically happening that was looking out for me in some ways. But I was putting my best positive foot forward."

She has moved past the pain and the rough period and is in a much better place and headspace.

She said, "It's fun to laugh at it now. It wasn't fun to laugh at it then. You know, I was going through a period where a lot of negative thoughts were entering my mind. Obviously, they did not succeed, but I had my confidence kind of beaten down."

Now she is a champion and we hear her 'ROAR.'
