Put the phone down. That text can wait. It could cost you more than money from a ticket or a fine. It could cost you your life.

And the numbers hit close to home here in the mitten state.
Distracted driving crashes in Michigan increased by 57 percent, and the number of fatalities from those crashes increased by 67 percent from 2016 to 2017, according to Michigan State Police.
There were 20,115 crashes in Michigan during 2017 involving distracted driving, resulting in 72 fatalities. (WXYZ)
