Lansing is about to have the first professional soccer team in Michigan, when the Lansing Ignite start playing. It was just announced by the Lansing City Council, as  members approved the deal Monday night for Lansing Ignite to play at Cooley Law School Stadium. The formal announcement will happen in the next couple of week, with the Lansing Ignite starting to play in March of 2019.

The news means the end of the amateur Lansing United's men's team which has played for the past five years. But the women's team will remain in Lansing.
