MSU To Pay $4.5 Million Fine To Feds

The U.S. Department of Education announced on Thursday that Michigan State University has to pay a $4.5 million fine for their handling of the Larry Nassar sexual assault case that resulted in multiple convictions for the former Holt, MI doctor, as well as the mishandling of the Dr. William Strampel affair.

As a result, MSU provost June Youatt announced her immediate resignation from the university. Youatt was second in command behind former university president Lou Anna K. Simon (who resigned her post in January 2018).

This fine shows that the school was in violation of Title IX. This is the second time that MSU has been found in violation of the civil rights law.

According to an article published by MSU Today, current university president Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D., announced several actions today in response to the investigations concluded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights and Clery Act Compliance Division. See the full MSU Today article for more information.
