NASCAR Sets Date for 2022 Return to Michigan International Speedway in Jackson-Made Cars
Okay, so the whole cars won't be made in Jackson, but their entire framework will be so that's still something to be just as excited for, right? How about just the fact that it's only September and NASCAR is already promising to be back!?
Jackson Connection to Next Gen Cup Cars
Back in May of 2021, NASCAR unveiled their new cars that Cup Series drivers would be hitting the track in, come the 2022 season.
Basically the change came when NASCAR, along with Chevy, Ford and Toyota wanted the cars people would see racing on the tracks to look like the same ones customers could go to their local dealerships and buy. Thus, the Next Gen cars were born.
Of course, with a massive change like this, you need some skilled manufacturers to make it happen and that is where Technique Inc. in Jackson comes in!
Technique Inc. are the ones building all of the chassis (AKA the framework or the "skeleton") of the cars for cup series teams.
Not only is it a major deal for the company and for the city of Jackson, but it is also an achievement and something special to former IndyCar driver, Ronnie Johncox, who happens to be the owner and operator of Technique Inc.
NASCAR at Michigan International Speedway 2022
Aside from the Next Gen cars making their debut in 2022, that's not the only exciting thing happening next NASCAR season.
First, "The Clash" which is an event NASCAR calls the "prelude" to the Daytona 500 will be taking place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on February 6th.
From there, NASCAR says the Daytona 500 officially kicks off the season on February 20th.
NASCAR also announced they will be bringing the cup series BACK to Worldwide Technology Raceway in St. Louis, Missouri along with the Bristol Dirt Race also making a comeback on Easter Sunday.
All of that is exciting but I know what you're really wondering, "WHEN ARE THEY COMING TO MICHIGAN?"
According to the NASCAR schedule, racing will be returning to Michigan International Speedway for the Firekeepers 400 the weekend of August 7th, 2022.
"Michigan International Speedway holds a special place on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule thanks to its rich history and proximity to the heart of the American automotive industry," WILX quotes from NASCAR Senior Vice President / Chief Track Properties Officer, Chip Wile,
Of course, the Technique Inc. team will be making their way out to the Daytona 500 to see the first time their chassis hit the track and we are sure they now have August 7th marked down on their calendars too!
If you're wondering what all the hype here is about, maybe some photos from the MIS Race for the 2021 season will help make it make sense:
