Meet Michigan’s State Christmas Tree for 2025
It's getting to be that time of year when the leaves have begun to change, even if the temperatures haven't yet matched that feeling in the air. However, Michigan is going to be getting its holiday glow-up relatively soon.
The State's Christmas tree is officially on its way to the Capitol City from Northern Michigan. It is a towering 68-foot spruce from Sault Ste. Marie has been picked to anchor the holiday season here in Michigan.
The tree does have a backstory to it as well. It was donated on behalf of Linda Reid, who did this in tribute to her Grandparents, Lawrence and Nettie Richey.
The Timeline For Everything
Crews will carefully harvest the spruce on Thursday, October 30, and from there it will make the long trek down I-75 with the help of the Michigan Association of Timbermen, the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association, as well as the state's Christmas tree team.
Once it is here in Lansing, local Boy Scout troops will handle the ceremonial untying.
After that, the City of Lansing's forestry crew takes over, getting the tree ready with all the lights, ornaments, and final touches before it is all lit up.
When The Tree Will Light Up
In honor of true tradition here in Lansing, the tree lighting will happen on Friday, November 21, during the 41st Annual Silver Bells in the City celebration, Lansing's big kickoff to the holiday season that everyone looks forward to.
Just wait, Santa will be on his way before we know it, tree and all.
