Michigan Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield, (R-Levering) is joining legislators in other Big Ten states in a call for the Big Ten Conference to reinstate football for this fall.

The league announced in August that football, as well as all other fall sports, will not have a championship this fall due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.  Football is scheduled to resume next spring at this point.

The Big Ten has gotten massive criticism regionally and nationwide for postponing their season, while schools in the SEC, ACC, and Big XII will begin their seasons this month.

A few games have already been played so far.  But many have been pushed back to later in September.

Last week, the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) announced that all fall sports would resume today (September 7th) with practice in football, and competitions resuming on Wednesday, September 8th.

It is unclear as to if legislators getting involved will influence Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren or the Big Ten school presidents, who voted to suspend football until the spring last month.
