Last week we got the news that a U.S. District Judge in Kalamazoo ruled that gyms in the state could reopen at 12:01 am Thursday, June 25th, which got so many people excited.

Well, as of Wednesday night, just hours before they were set to open, Gyms will have to remain closed as the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 3-0 to keep the gyms closed by granting an emergency stay to the executive order that Gov. Whitmer has signed back in March closing the fitness centers to prevent the spread of COVID-19, according to WOODTV.

The decision from the Court of Appeals said they understand the frustration of business owners and patrons and sympathize with them, quick decisive measures are needed to keep people safe during pandemics and other crises, and those measures are decided by the Governor, WZZM reports.

The court didn't give a reopening date, but originally gyms, movie theaters, and bowling alleys were going to open under Phase 5, which everyone including the Governor, had hoped would be before the fourth of July, but because of positive cases of COVID-19 popping up in East Lansing, over 30 from the same restaurant, the move to Phase 5 for the lower part of Michigan has been put on hold.

If you're really dying to workout at a gym, they're open in Northern Michigan, which was able to move into Phase 5 back on June 10th.
