There are so many families throughout the Mid-Michigan area that can use some help when it comes to food. That's one of the reasons why food assistance for Michigan families has now been extended.

According to WILX, the state of Michigan is extending food assistance benefits through the month of July.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, so many families have been affected during this very difficult time.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department and Human Services made an announcement recently stating that about 350,000 families will continue to receive the benefits as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Right now in the United States alone, there are more than 3.3 million confirmed cases of coronavirus.

There are millions of people unemployed, or furloughed and don't even know if and when they'll ever get their jobs back.

And there are millions of people who could use food assistance just like many families here in Mid-Michigan.

"The state said it previously approved additional food service assistance for March through June, but after getting approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service, services have been extended through the month of July." (WILX)

Governor Whitmer said that many Michigan families are still struggling to put food on the table as a result of this global pandemic.

For so many families, food assistance will help many Michigan families as we all continue to deal with this public health emergency.

Even if you know a family that could use a little help right about now, take some extra time to help them out with a meal or two. Not everyone will be able to get food assistance, so let's be a good neighbor and help out a family in need.
