Spooky Season Sweets! This is Michigan’s Most Popular Halloween Candy
The season of sweets is upon us and soon those little witches and goblins will come chanting to our front doors all in search of one thing...candy. Although there's a good chance just about anything collected on Halloween will be a treat, there's always a fan favorite.
When it comes to Halloween in the Great Lakes State, you better believe there's a reigning champion in the candy department. For a few years Candy Corn reigned supreme, but last year, thankfully, it was dethroned. Sorry, this writer is not a fan of "no flavor" little nugget.
According to the National Retail Federation, this is going to be a big year for Halloween candy spending. Predictions are it should hit a whopping $3.6 billion for 2023! That’s a jump up over last year and 16% over the previous all-time high.
What's the Most Popular Halloween Candy in Michigan?
The reigning champion for a second year as the most popular Halloween candy in Michigan is ....drum roll, please...Starburst! The square-shaped rainbow chewable took over the top spot this year in Michigan according to Candystore.com.
As for who holds the crown as the Most Popular Halloween candy in America, that honor goes to the iconic Reese's Cup. The "cups" have been holding on for some time now, but M&M's are giving them a run for their money and closing in the fast.
As for the rest of the country, we seem to love all of the classic favorites. The top ten rounds out like this, with Reese's Cups taking the crown...and rightfully so in my book. Here's how the Top 10 looks this year:
- Reese's Cups
- M & M's
- Hot Tamales
- Skittles
- Sour Patch Kids
- Starburst
- Hershey Kisses
- Candy Corn
- Hersey Mini-bars
- Snickers
And if you think these stats just apply to kids, keep in mind over 50% of parents stash some Halloween candy to enjoy later in the year. Yes...we see you.
