Michigan Beef Recall – What You Need To Know
Heads up Michigan residents, you have purchased meat that might possibly be contaminated with E. coli.
The World Health Organization defines E. coli as bacteria that are commonly found in the gut of humans and warm-blooded animals. Ugh.
It is recommended that you check your refrigerator and freezer for ground beef made by American Foods Group. The ground beef in question is packaged under the name Green Bay Dressed Beef.
According to CBS News, the ground beef was produced on August 14, 2023, and shipped to Michigan, Georgia, and Ohio.
The USDA Food Service and Inspection Service has recalled the following products,
- Approximately 80-lb. cases containing 10-lb. plastic tubes (chubs) of "90050 BEEF FINE GROUND 81/19" with lot code D123226026.
- Approximately 80-lb. cases containing 10-lb. plastic tubes (chubs) of "20473 BEEF HALAL FINE GROUND 73/27" with lot code D123226027.
- Approximately 80-lb. cases containing 10-lb. plastic tubes (chubs) of "20105 BEEF FINE GROUND 73/27" with lot code D123226027.
If you purchased any of the above Green Bay Dressed Beef products, you have two options, return to the place of purchase or throw the ground beef away. Under no circumstances should you 'chance it' and eat the meat.
As you can imagine, symptoms of E. coli infection are less than desirable. According to the Mayo Clinic, signs of E. coli infection are as follows,
- Diarrhea
- Stomach Cramps
- Nausea
- Vomiting
If you have additional questions on the recall, you can reach out to Green Bay Dressed Beef Products at (800)-29-2838 or the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service at 888-MPHotline.
