Whenever I go on vacation, one of the first things I do is look up the best hiking trails in the area. I’ll drive way out of my way just to tackle one if the reviews and views look good enough.
The funny thing is, I hardly ever hike here in Michigan, which is kind of ridiculous when you think about how many incredible trails we have right in our own backyard.
We’ve got everything from wooded trails and waterfalls to massive sand dunes, Lake Michigan overlooks, and hikes that take you through some seriously remote parts of the state.

Some are quick hikes that almost anyone can knock out in an afternoon. Others are longer, more challenging trails that might take a little more planning.
You’ll also find a pretty good mix between the Lower Peninsula and Upper Peninsula, so this isn’t just a list of places that require driving eight hours north.
