Free Fishing, Free ORVs, Free Parks: Michigan’s Best Cheap Weekend Date Is Back
If you've been looking for a reason to get off the couch without taking out a small loan, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has you covered. According to a DNR newsletter, Michigan's annual "Three Free" Weekend returns Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14, 2026, giving both residents and out-of-state visitors a chance to enjoy some of the state's most popular outdoor activities without cracking open a wallet.

That means no fishing license, no ORV license or trail permit, and no Recreation Passport needed to enter Michigan's state parks and boating access sites. In other words, for one weekend, the state is basically saying, "Go outside. We've already paid the cover charge."
Free Fishing, ORV Riding, and State Park Entry

The "Three Free" Weekend includes:
- Free Fishing Weekend for all in-season species. All regular fishing regulations still apply.
- Free ORV Weekend on more than 4,000 miles of state-designated trails and routes, plus six scramble areas.
- Free entry into Michigan's 103 state parks and more than 1,000 state-managed boat launches.
DNR Director Scott Bowen said in a press release that this weekend is designed to encourage newcomers to discover Michigan's outdoors while giving longtime adventurers a reason to dust off their gear.

The DNR is also reminding everyone to keep safety and conservation top of mind. That means riding ORVs responsibly, boating clean to prevent the spread of invasive species, and making sure you aren't transporting unwanted hitchhikers, like ticks or spotted lanternflies, between trails and parks, and eventually into your yard.
