Taste of Home Magazine sought to find the best "hidden gem" eatery in each state - spots that cook up hearty and delicious food that's beloved by locals and folks passing through.
Taste of Home has crowned Herman's Boy Inc. in Rockford, Mich., a the best small town restaurant in Michigan!
This Rockford staple is more than just a restaurant - it's five businesses in one! All under one roof, you'll find a coffee roastery, bakery and deli, candy and fudge shop, a kitchen gadget shop, and an outdoor cooking and smokehouse shop.
Jeffrey A. Havemeier, President of Herman Boy Inc., says of the honor from Taste of Home,
It's pretty cool, especially since we didn’t even know we were in the running for such an honor... It is a reaffirmation of our philosophy of fresh, made-to-order food at a reasonable price that we have always strived for almost 45 years now!
Originally called The Melting Pot, the first location opened in 1979 as a deli. Not long after, the business acquired The Coffee Ranch, a Grand Rapids' coffee maker that had been founded in 1901. Now located at 220 Northland Dr NE., that's the same coffee Herman's Boy serves today.
