I Am Legit Confused. Why Is Michigan A Covid-19 Hotspot?
I'm just going to come at this as a normal guy who's living and working here in Michigan and trying to understand. Forgive me if my questions might sound simple and I might offend with some of my statements.
But what is going on?
How did we get here?
Didn't we go from the governor having some of the tightest lockdown restrictions and folks screaming "Whitler"?
To the governor herself saying we're not going back and she's not going to implement restrictions again?
While the governor said the state is using "every mitigation strategy" to fight the virus, Whitmer said there is no plan to issue new health and safety regulations to stem the nation's worst surge of the pandemic. (April 14, 2021 - Freep)
Even though the CDC is kinda...ok STRONGLY RECOMMENDING we do something.
During a coronavirus-related news conference, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky recommended that restrictions should be put in place in Michigan to help slow virus spread -- specifically within youth sports. (clickondetroit)
Then the governor put things on pause for two weeks and there was much protesting.
We can go back and forth with the political this and let them play that all we want. At the end of the day we've still got the highest numbers in the nation right now.
As a matter of fact, this should be telling enough.
Michigan has recorded a highest-in-the-nation 91,000 new COVID-19 cases over the last two weeks, despite improvements in the numbers in recent days. By comparison, that is more cases than California and Texas had combined in the same period. (WILX)
MORE THAN CALI AND TEXAS COMBINED?!?
Jackson is the state's hotspot and schools there are reporting more cases.
So here's where I get confused. Numbers are going up and we're not ramping up restrictions again. Schools are the hotspots but folks don't want us to pause or cancel school sports and events. We have vaccines available practically everywhere and they are free but folks aren't taking them? There is mask fatigue so folks are not wearing them?
Rural areas are getting hit hard now, the more transmissible variants are out there and it's spreading easier, and people are still spreading misinformation about it and don't believe it's a THING right Uncle Ted?
This is a perfect storm of crazy and I'm not trying to be political. I just don't understand what's going on.
What are we or aren't we doing here? Shouldn't we be doing something? Anything? We've got vaccines right? There's a Pfizer plant in Kalamazoo right?
Why are we a hotspot? Why are our number bigger than California and Texas combined? Why aren't people getting vaccinated?
What's it gonna take?
Is it just me?
Please help me to understand because this just doesn't make sense to me.
