That's even more than the overall inflation during that time. Eggs... milk... bread... some days it feels like you need a small loan just to eat.
Why Are Food Prices Rising Again?
Before we even get a chance to catch our breath, it feels like the next wave of price increases is coming our way, and that's because they are. On August 7th, a new wave of tariffs is set to hit stores, and they may end up hurting your wallet.
This new set of tariffs is set to affect imported goods. Unless you are growing your own coffee beans in a backyard greenhouse in Michigan, prices on a lot of your go-to grocery items are about to spike big time.
What the August 7 Tariffs Will Affect
The Tax Foundation states that these tariffs will affect approximately 75% of the United States' food imports. The only true exception? Stuff coming from Canada and Mexico under the USMCA deal. Stock up on those Mexican avocados and Canada's maple cookies while you can.
Top Grocery Items Expected to Spike
Here are the top five grocery items that are expected to get hit the hardest, here in Michigan.
The top five grocery items that are expected to get hit the hardest:
1.) Liquor and spirits
2.) Baked Goods
3.) Coffee
4.) Fish
5.) Beer
While Michigan has a ton of local breweries and bakeries, sometimes there is no true swap for the items that you like to go to inside the stores.
August 7th is on the way; I guess all we can do is prepare to see the prices go up.
